Fantasy Football Glossary
Every fantasy football term you will hear in a league chat, explained in one clear sentence and then in practical terms. Written in-house, no jargon required.
Terms A to Z
- PPR
- PPR stands for points per reception: every catch is worth one extra fantasy point on top of yardage and touchdowns.
- Standard scoring
- Standard scoring awards no points for catches, so fantasy points come from yards, touchdowns and bonuses only.
- Waiver wire
- The waiver wire is the pool of unrostered players every team can claim, usually in a set priority order after games finish.
- FAAB
- FAAB is free agent acquisition budget: a fixed pot of fake money you bid against your league to win waiver claims.
- ADP
- ADP is average draft position: where a player is typically picked across many drafts.
- FLEX
- A FLEX spot is a lineup slot that accepts more than one position, most often a running back, receiver or tight end.
- Handcuff
- A handcuff is the backup behind a starting running back, rostered specifically to inherit the workload if the starter goes down.
- Streaming
- Streaming is picking up a different quarterback, tight end, kicker or defense each week purely for the matchup.
- Target share
- Target share is the percentage of his team's passing attempts that go to one receiver.
- Usage
- Usage is how much real work a player gets: snaps, carries, targets and red-zone chances.
- Projection
- A projection is our expected fantasy point total for a player in a given week.
- Pepper Meter
- The Pepper Meter is our 1-to-5 heat rating for how strongly we like a player's week, from Mild to Nuclear.
- Start/Sit
- A start/sit call is a straight verdict on whether to put a player in your lineup this week.
- Injury designation
- An injury designation is the official weekly status on a player: Out, Doubtful, Questionable or Probable.
- Bust
- A bust is a player who scores far below his projection — on this site, under 75% of what we projected.
- Matchup
- A matchup is how favorable a player's opponent is for his position this week.
- Trending player
- A trending player is one being added or dropped quickly across leagues, measured by roster percentage movement.
- Draft kit
- A draft kit is the set of tools you take into a draft: a cheat sheet, position tiers and value rankings.
